Open Multiple Email Accounts in Firefox at the Same Time

If you are a huge internet user, you would love to use Mozilla Firefox as your default browser. I think you should have met the common scenario that I did. If you want to check mails from the multiple Gmail account then you have to sign in to one account, read the mail, sign out from the account and sign in to the different account to read mail.Didn’t tired? (you might also like to read Manage Multiple Email accounts from one Email account)

Also if you want to open your Orkut account which is not associated with that Gmail account, generally you would open your Orkut account in different browser as you can not open two accounts of the same service at a time in the same browser. Similar situations did meet with the yahoo and other mail services. But you can get rid from this scenario just using a Firefox trick.

What you have to do first?

#1. Create a profile:Generally Firefox runs with the default profile. At first you have to run Firefox in different profile to run it in different instance. To create a different profile just follow the instruction below:

Open the ‘Run’ option from Start->Run and execute the command below

"C:Program FilesMozilla Firefoxfirefox.exe" -CreateProfile Softslas

Where Softslas is the name of the profile. You can give anything name in your profile.

Note that the path C:Program FilesMozilla Firefoxfirefox.exe may change as per your installation.

#2. Run Firefox with the new profile you created:

To run the profile named Softslas (As example) execute the following command(including the quotes) in Start->Run

"C:Program FilesMozilla Firefoxfirefox.exe" -no-remote -P Softslas

Immediately after hitting enter the Firefox will star in the new profile.

So you can now run Your Firefox browser in different profile. This allows you to login in different account under the same services. You have to just open them in the different profiles. As example  you can sign in to Example1[at]gmail[dot]com in the default profile and in example2[at]gamail[dot]com with the profile ‘Softslas’.open-multiple-gmail-account-in-firefox-1

But every time running the profiles from command line is little bit boring. So you can apply a little trick to make it easy.

The trick

  1. Right click on the desktop and then chose “Shortcut” from the “New” under the right click
  2. Now copy the command line below:
"C:Program FilesMozilla Firefoxfirefox.exe" -no-remote -P Softslas

and click “Next”. Softslas is the profile name. You can change it as your profile name.

3.  Type the name in the next step. Here I typed Softslas as example and click finish.

The Firefox shortcut icon will be created in the desktop with the name “firefox[Softslas]”.So you can identify the shortcut which will run Firefox in the different profile you have indicated.

similarly you can create a shortcut to the default profile just replacing Softslas by “default”.

So here is the all you need to do.You can chose your profile to run and open different Gmail account at the same time in Firefox. That is another Firefox is at your Bay.
